Document Requirements
Find all the documents relevant to your visa category, nationality, and travel plans—all in one place.
Apply for Malaysia eVisaEvery Malaysia visa application handled through this site starts from the same three identity documents: a valid passport, a clear colour copy of the passport biodata page and a recent passport-style photograph. What is added on top depends on the visa category. Tourist and Business eVisa applicants prepare travel, accommodation and, where requested, financial or business documents, while the four Visa with Reference (VDR) categories add the VDR letter and the Immigration approval letter plus category-specific papers.
Documents are requested, not collected for their own sake. A flight booking, a hotel confirmation or a bank statement is listed as a supporting document where required, so prepare the items that apply to your trip and your circumstances rather than everything on every list. Where a document is encouraged rather than mandatory, the explanations on this page say so.
Scans and photographs should be readable from edge to edge, free of glare and cropping, and consistent with one another and with the details you enter in the application. The sections below walk through each category, explain the individual documents, cover accommodation and transit situations, and address applicants who apply from a country other than their own.
For holidays, sightseeing and personal visits. Every applicant prepares the three core identity documents; the supporting items are requested according to the trip and the applicant's circumstances, such as where you will stay and whether you are applying from outside your home country.
For meetings, events and other eligible business-related visits. In addition to the core identity documents, business applicants may be asked for correspondence from the organization they will visit and evidence of their own company or professional role.
For applicants whose employment arrangements in Malaysia have already been approved. The VDR letter and the Immigration approval letter are core documents here; our service covers the entry-visa application that follows those approvals, not the approval itself.
For international students whose educational and immigration approvals are complete. Alongside the core documents and approval letters, students prepare their admission or offer letter and the university payment receipt or payment verification.
For eligible family members joining an approved pass holder in Malaysia. The relationship to the sponsor or principal pass holder is documented with a marriage certificate or birth certificate, as applicable, together with the sponsor's supporting documents.
For travelers whose approved official visit requires a VDR entry visa. The official invitation or authorization letter and a supporting letter from the receiving organization document the approved purpose of the visit.
This category applies only to approved official-visit arrangements requiring VDR entry-visa assistance.
Official Visit VDR RequirementsStart with the essential documents for your visa category. Additional supporting documents depend on your travel plans and individual circumstances. Select a topic below for more details.
Prepare a valid passport containing your current personal and travel-document information. Check that the passport details entered in your application match the information printed in the passport.
Provide a clear color copy of the passport page showing your photograph, full name, passport number, date of birth, nationality and other personal details.
The entire page should be visible, including all edges and the machine-readable section. Avoid glare, shadows, cropped information and blurred text.
Prepare a recent passport-style photograph showing your face clearly against a plain background.
Use a natural appearance and avoid beauty filters, heavy editing, distracting shadows or blurred images.
Applicants are encouraged to provide a confirmed flight booking or issued e-ticket showing their full name, travel dates, flight itinerary and booking reference.
Where available, an issued e-ticket number provides additional evidence of confirmed travel arrangements.
We highly recommend providing clear and verifiable flight documentation, as this may help reduce additional verification requests and avoidable processing delays.
For a smoother application experience, applicants are encouraged to include their confirmed flight details whenever possible.
We highly recommend providing a confirmed hotel reservation showing the guest's name, accommodation address and intended dates of stay.
Where available, a paid hotel reservation with payment confirmation provides additional supporting evidence of the accommodation arrangements.
Clear and verifiable hotel documentation may help reduce additional verification requests and avoidable processing delays.
For a smoother application experience, we encourage applicants to include their hotel confirmation and payment receipt whenever possible.
Travellers arriving in Malaysia from countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission may be required to present a valid Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate upon arrival. This also applies to certain airport transits through affected countries lasting more than 12 hours. The requirement depends on travel history and route, not passport nationality alone. Travellers should check whether this requirement applies to their journey and carry their certificate when required.
Some visa applications may require a recent bank statement or other acceptable evidence of financial support.
Where applicable, the document should be readable, complete and consistent with the information supplied in the application.
Applicants applying from a country other than their country of nationality should prepare a copy of their valid residence visa, residence permit, student pass, work-related residence permission or other applicable authorization for long-term stay in that country.
The document should be readable and valid at the time of application. Additional validity requirements may depend on the individual application.
Business travelers may need supporting correspondence from the inviting organization or company. Relevant information may include the purpose of the visit, company details and intended business activities.
Students applying for a relevant VDR entry visa should prepare their university or educational institution admission or offer letter and any applicable educational approval documents.
Student VDR applicants should prepare the relevant university payment receipt or payment verification associated with their approved educational arrangements.
Employment Pass VDR applicants should prepare their employment offer letter and relevant supporting correspondence from their employer or company.
An Employment Verification Letter is an official document issued by the applicant's employer confirming that the applicant is currently employed by the company. It should include the employee's full name, job title, company name, employment status and date of issue. The letter should preferably be printed on company letterhead and signed by an authorized representative.
This document may be required as supporting evidence for a Malaysia eVisa application, depending on the applicant's circumstances and the applicable document requirements. Applicants who are employed should prepare an up-to-date letter in case it is requested.
Dependent Pass VDR applicants may need a marriage certificate, birth certificate or other relevant evidence of their relationship to the sponsor or principal pass holder.
Depending on the visa category and individual circumstances, additional documents may be requested to clarify travel purpose, sponsorship, accommodation, financial arrangements or other application details.
Accommodation arrangements may differ depending on the purpose of your visit. Whether you plan to stay at a hotel, visit family or friends, or transit through Malaysia, preparing the relevant supporting documents can help make your application clearer and easier to review.
Applicants staying at a hotel are encouraged to provide a confirmed reservation showing their name, hotel address and intended dates of stay.
A paid hotel booking with payment confirmation is strongly recommended where available, as it provides additional evidence of confirmed accommodation arrangements.
Clear booking and payment information may help reduce avoidable verification questions.
For reservations made through Booking.com or similar booking platforms, we recommend including the booking confirmation and payment receipt whenever available.
Applicants are encouraged to choose reservations that can be verified directly with the hotel or booking provider.
If payment has not yet been collected, the booking confirmation should accurately reflect the reservation and its payment status.
If you plan to stay with family or friends in Malaysia instead of booking a hotel, you can prepare supporting documents from the person hosting your visit.
The recommended documents depend on whether your host is a Malaysian citizen or a foreign national legally residing in Malaysia.
The foreign host's Malaysian residence authorization should be valid.
These documents help explain and support your accommodation arrangements when staying with family or friends instead of at a hotel.
Additional information may be requested depending on the applicant's circumstances.
If you are transiting through Malaysia and do not plan to stay at a hotel, a short explanation letter can help clarify your travel arrangements.
For our application-preparation process, we recommend including the following information:
Where available, include the confirmed onward flight booking or e-ticket to support the transit explanation.
Clear onward travel details may help reduce avoidable questions about your intended stay.
Your supporting documents may differ depending on your nationality and country of residence. Select the option that matches where you are applying from.
If you are applying from your country of nationality, prepare the standard documents listed for your selected visa category, together with any additional supporting documents applicable to your circumstances.
If you are applying from a country other than your country of nationality, prepare the standard visa documents and evidence of your valid legal residence or authorized long-term stay in the country from which you are applying.
Provide the document that applies to your own immigration status; you do not need to supply every type of pass listed.
Your residence visa, permit or pass must be valid. The appropriate type of residence documentation may depend on your circumstances.
For applications submitted through our service from a third country, applicants should prepare travel evidence showing their intended return to the country from which they are applying.
For example, an applicant living in Australia and applying from Australia should prepare an itinerary showing their intended return to Australia after visiting Malaysia.
If the applicant plans to visit another country after Malaysia, additional onward travel details may be provided, but the applicant should also demonstrate their intended return to Australia as part of our application-preparation requirements.
A Pakistani passport holder who legally resides in Australia and submits a Malaysia visa application from Australia should prepare the documents applicable to their selected visa category.
For our application-preparation process, they should also provide a copy of their valid Australian residence visa, student visa, work visa or other applicable long-term residence permission.
Their travel itinerary should show their intended return to Australia, including when they plan to visit Pakistan or another destination after Malaysia.
Most clarification requests come from small inconsistencies rather than missing documents. The name, passport number, date of birth and nationality you type into the application should match the passport biodata page exactly, and the dates on a flight booking or hotel confirmation should match the travel dates you declare.
Prepare the documents for the visa category you actually select. A Business eVisa application supported only by tourist-style documents, or a VDR entry-visa application without the VDR letter and Immigration approval letter, will usually lead to a request for additional documents.
A complete and consistent application reduces avoidable requests for additional documents. It does not guarantee approval or a particular processing time.
A valid passport, a clear copy of the passport biodata page and a recent passport-style photograph are core documents for every category on this page.
Employment Pass, Student Pass, Dependent Pass and Official Visit applicants also provide the Visa with Reference (VDR) letter and the Immigration approval letter, followed by the supporting documents listed for their category.
No. A bank statement or other acceptable financial evidence is listed as a supporting document, where required, for Tourist and Business eVisa applications. Some applications may require it; prepare it if it is requested for yours.
Confirmed flight and hotel documents are encouraged because they make the application clearer, but neither a purchased ticket nor prepaid accommodation is mandatory for every application, and providing them does not guarantee a faster decision.
Prepare documents from your host: for a Malaysian citizen, a copy of the host's MyKad, a recent utility bill and a signed invitation or sponsorship letter; for a foreign national living in Malaysia, the host's passport biodata page and valid long-term residence authorization in place of the MyKad. The host-letter checklist above lists what the letter should include.
Yes. Prepare the standard documents for your category plus evidence of your valid legal residence or authorized long-term stay in the country you are applying from, and travel evidence showing your intended return there.
No. Our VDR entry-visa assistance is for applicants who already hold the relevant VDR letter and Immigration approval letter. Obtaining the initial Employment Pass, Student Pass, Dependent Pass or Official Visit approval is a separate step we do not arrange.
No. Careful preparation reduces avoidable errors and additional-document requests, but every application remains subject to the applicable review and decision.
Each category has its own page with a full explanation of the documents, preparation steps and questions specific to that visa.
