Malaysia Business eVisa Requirements
Business-related applications may require information about the planned visit and the organizations involved, in addition to personal identification documents. This guide sets out what a business applicant should organize and why.
Malaysia Business eVisa Overview
The Business eVisa is the category for travelers whose visit to Malaysia is business-related, subject to applicable eligibility and visa conditions. Like the Tourist eVisa, it is applied for online before travel and is available with a Single Entry or, where eligible and approved, a Multiple Entry option, at a Regular or Express service level.
What sets a business application apart is the paperwork around the visit itself. Beyond identity documents, the application may ask who you are visiting, what you will be doing, and which company or organization you represent. Organizing those documents before you start is the main work of a business application.
Purpose of Business Visits
Typical purposes are meetings, business discussions, events and other eligible business activities with an organization in Malaysia. When you prepare the application, be ready to describe the planned meetings, discussions or activities in plain terms; the purpose-of-visit information is one of the items that may be requested.
Taking up employment in Malaysia is a different matter. Applicants whose employment arrangements have been approved use the Employment Pass VDR entry-visa category, which requires the VDR letter and the Immigration approval letter rather than a business invitation. Holiday and personal visits belong to the Tourist eVisa.
Business eVisa Eligibility
Eligibility follows passport nationality and purpose of travel, exactly as it does for tourist applicants: review the eligibility-by-nationality information on the homepage, and remember that Multiple Entry options depend on nationality-specific eligibility and immigration conditions.
Business travelers who are based outside their country of nationality and apply from their country of residence should add evidence of their valid residence permit, pass or other long-term stay authorization there, together with travel evidence showing their intended return.
Passport and Personal Information
The identity documents are the same for every category and are confirmed requirements.
Identity documents
- A valid passport, and a readable colour copy of its biodata page with all edges and the machine-readable section visible.
- A recent passport-style photograph with a plain background and a natural appearance.
- Personal, passport and travel details entered in the application exactly as printed in the passport.
Whoever completes the form, check the name spelling, passport number and date of birth against the passport before submitting.
Business-Related Supporting Documents
These documents may be requested depending on the application. Prepare the ones that describe your visit and your role.
Documents about the visit
- Business invitation or company supporting letter from the organization you plan to visit in Malaysia.
- Purpose-of-visit information explaining your planned meetings, business discussions or other intended activities.
- Relevant business-purpose documentation for the visit.
Documents about you and your company
- Company registration or organizational details for the business you represent, where applicable.
- An employment confirmation letter or business identification showing your professional role.
- Bank statement or acceptable financial evidence, where required.
Business Invitation and Visit Information
An invitation from the organization you will visit may be requested. Useful correspondence states the purpose of the visit, the inviting company's details and the intended business activities, so that the letter and your own purpose-of-visit information tell the same story.
Check that the dates, company names and your own name in the invitation match the rest of the application. Inconsistent document details are a common reason for a request for additional supporting documents.
Travel and Accommodation Details
Keep your proposed travel dates and accommodation information ready in case they are requested.
Recommended travel documents
- A confirmed flight booking or e-ticket showing your name, travel dates, itinerary and booking reference.
- A hotel reservation showing the guest's name, address and dates of stay, with payment confirmation where available.
- If the inviting organization arranges your accommodation, the booking confirmation it provides.
These are recommendations that help verification; a paid ticket or prepaid hotel is not mandatory for every application. The Document Requirements page covers hotel, host and transit situations in detail.

Review the nationality information and decide between Single Entry and Multiple Entry, and between Regular and Express service.
Align the dates
Make sure the invitation, flight booking and hotel reservation all refer to the same visit dates.

Common Document Preparation Issues
- An invitation without the essentials
- A letter that omits the purpose of the visit, the company details or the intended activities invites follow-up questions. Ask the inviting organization to include all three.
- Company details that do not match
- The company named in your employment letter, the invitation and the application should be consistent.
- No evidence of your professional role
- An employment confirmation letter or business identification may be requested; have it ready rather than assuming the invitation covers it.
- A vague purpose of visit
- Describe the meetings, discussions or events concretely. A clear purpose supports the business category.
- Dates out of step
- Invitation dates, flight dates and hotel dates that disagree are a frequent cause of clarification requests.
- Identity scans below standard
- The same passport and photograph rules apply as for any category: whole page, no glare, natural photograph.
